WILLIE FEBRUARY 2009

Willie? Is it really you! Yes it is in fact! It's Feburary 2009 and Willie's made a miraculous recovery from the frail state I found him in back in May of last year (2008). Go Willie Go! And a great job to his grannie, thumbs up to you for not misusing his sponsorship money!

This was Willie's reaction when....
...we had to tell him that we'd be restricting his food intake!!! Diet time! He's TOO FAT! Ok, that's a joke but seriously, he's amazing everyone!

IS THIS THE SAME KID?!?!?!

Since May, Willie and his grandmother have been a part of our Emergency Care Sponsorship Program. Now it is October, and it is VERY OBVIOUS that what we are doing is working. Through Willie's sponsor, he's not only healthy, but FAT!

His grandmother now has two chickens and we are in the process of constructing a nesting house for them and more. We've also decided to start a small business for her since we were impressed with her hard work. I think these pictures speak a trillion words.

30 SEPTEMBER 2008

Willie's mom has re-appeared after being absent while he sufferred through severe malnutrition. She's now involved in his life again but we are monitoring her closely and still relying on his grandmother to handle feeding issues. We'll keep you updated.

GREAT NEWS! Willie has taken his first steps. He is now strong enough to walk! Amazing what a little nutritious food can accomplish after a few months.

I met Willie and his grandmother by chance when I was hunting for Celestine by the request of a good friend. I noticed him and his grandmother in the group of people that had gathered around me and immediately saw that both of them were extremely thin and frail. At 2 yrs old, Willie probably weighed that of a 6 month old child and if he was to continue this way, he would surely not be with us for much longer.

After leaving Kenya at the end of May, I posted a story about him on my personal blog and got a sponsor right away. Project manager, Maurice Mwanza tells me that Willie is a different child today, and I'll get to see for myself in about 3 weeks!
